Cookie Policy
Effective date: October 2026
This Cookie Policy governs the storage of, and access to, information on user devices through cookies and similar technologies on Altasciences websites and Online Services that Altasciences controls. This Policy applies to all cookies and similar technologies on our Online Services, regardless of whether the information they store or access is considered Personal Information under a particular law.
This Cookie Policy supplements Altasciences’ Online Privacy Notice. For California residents, this Cookie Policy works together with the California Privacy Notice and Notice at Collection.
What Cookies and Similar Technologies Are
Altasciences uses cookies and similar technologies on the Online Services. A cookie is a small text file placed on a device by a website to store information such as settings or identifiers. Cookies help the Online Services remember preferences, improve functionality, and support analytics and marketing.
“Similar technologies” include web beacons or pixels, SDKs, log files and device identifiers, and local storage. Altasciences treats these technologies as cookies for purposes of this Policy, including notice, consent, choice, and controls.
Altasciences may set first-party cookies (set by Altasciences) and allow third-party cookies (set by service providers whose technology Altasciences incorporates into the Online Services). Disclosures and choices cover third-party cookies that operate through the Online Services.
Users may continue to access the Online Services if they refuse non-essential cookies, but some features may not function as intended.
Categories of Cookies We Use
Altasciences classifies cookies by function and identifies whether a cookie is session (deleted when the browser closes) or persistent (retained for a stated period). The four categories are:
- Strictly Necessary Cookies: essential for core site functions such as page navigation, secure areas, consent management, and session management. Altasciences sets these cookies in response to actions that users take, such as setting privacy preferences, logging in, or submitting forms. These cookies cannot be disabled in our systems.
- Functional Cookies: enhance the Online Services by remembering selections such as language or region, and by enabling surveys, forms, and performance testing of features. Altasciences or service providers may set these cookies to support user-requested functionality.
- Analytics (Performance) Cookies: collect information about how users interact with the Online Services. Altasciences uses aggregated data, such as visit counts, traffic sources, session flow, page popularity, and error diagnostics, to improve performance and user experience.
- Marketing / Targeting Cookies: enable personalization, ad measurement, and social media features. They may help tailor content and advertisements, measure effectiveness, and support limited cross-site recognition where allowed by law and user choices.
Altasciences’ controls cover cookies across all four categories, including those set by third parties through the Online Services. Users can view and manage cookie categories in the Cookie Preferences tab at any time.
Cookie Register
Altasciences maintains a register of cookies currently deployed on Altasciences Online Services. Marketing and the Privacy Officer maintain this register and update it whenever cookies are added, changed, or removed.
Analytics: Google Analytics
Altasciences uses Google Analytics to create usage statistics and improve the Online Services. Google Analytics may collect information such as a cookie-based visitor ID, IP address, referrer and landing pages, device and browser type, operating system, approximate location derived from IP address, pages viewed and related pageview activity (for example, scroll depth and clicks), session timestamps and duration, and certain interactions (for example, file downloads or share-button clicks), consistent with the Online Privacy Notice.
For further information, see How Google uses data with partner sites and Google’s Privacy Policy. To opt out of Google Analytics measurement, users may use the Google Analytics Opt-Out Browser Add-On.
Choices and Controls
When a user first visits an Altasciences website, a cookie banner is presented that allows the user to:
- accept all cookies applicable in their location;
- accept only essential cookies; or
- select which cookie categories to allow on a granular basis.
Users can access and update Cookie Preferences at any time through the “Cookie Settings” link in the website footer. Choices are remembered across sessions. Altasciences requests consent before setting non-essential cookies where the law requires consent. Users may withdraw consent at any time by updating preferences or by contacting the Privacy Officer at privacyofficer@altasciences.com.
The cookie banner and Cookie Preferences interface provide clear, precise, and user-friendly information about the purposes for which cookies and similar technologies are used, consistent with the requirements of the ePrivacy Directive and applicable national implementing legislation. Where consent is required, the information provided meets the standard for informed consent under the GDPR and applicable law.
Browser-Level Controls and Industry Opt-Outs
Most browsers allow users to manage cookies through their settings, including viewing, deleting, and blocking cookies. If a user deletes or blocks cookies, preferences may not be saved across sessions and some features of the Online Services may not function as intended. Strictly necessary cookies are required for essential functions and cannot be disabled in Altasciences’ systems.
For Google Analytics, users may use the Google Analytics Opt-Out Browser Add-On. For interest-based advertising, users may use recognized industry opt-out tools:
- Network Advertising Initiative (NAI): https://optout.networkadvertising.org/ (United States)
- Digital Advertising Alliance (DAA): https://optout.aboutads.info/ (United States)
- European Interactive Digital Advertising Alliance (EDAA): https://www.youronlinechoices.eu/ (EU/EEA)
Regional Requirements and Signals
For full jurisdiction-specific privacy disclosures, see the Jurisdiction Disclosures section of the Online Privacy Notice.
EU/EEA and United Kingdom
Under the ePrivacy Directive (and its national implementations) and the UK Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR), Altasciences sets non-essential cookies only after obtaining prior informed consent. Strictly necessary cookies rely on necessity and do not require consent. The consent interface provides clear and comprehensive information about the purposes of processing in a user-friendly format, consistent with the ePrivacy Directive’s requirements. Users may withdraw consent at any time through Cookie Preferences.
Canada and Québec
For Québec and the rest of Canada, Altasciences provides clear information about cookie use and obtains consent before using non-essential cookies. Altasciences identifies the person in charge of personal information and assesses cross-border communications consistent with Law 25 before transferring cookie-derived Personal Information outside Québec.
California
Altasciences links to the California Privacy Notice and Notice at Collection for rights and opt-out mechanics. Altasciences recognizes valid Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals where required by law. Users may use the “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” link or a supported GPC signal to apply an opt-out.
Sale, Sharing, and Opt-Out Preference Signals
Altasciences does not sell Personal Information and does not share Personal Information for cross-context behavioral advertising. If practices change, Altasciences will update its notices, provide a “Do Not Sell or Share” control at or before the point of collection, and honor valid GPC signals where required by law.
Altasciences limits the use of Sensitive Personal Information to purposes permitted by California law and does not use Sensitive Personal Information to infer characteristics. If practices change, Altasciences will enable any required “Limit” control and update this Policy accordingly.
Third-Party Technologies
Third-party technologies may operate on or with the Online Services, for example analytics, consent tools, security services, webinar or event tools, and CRM systems. Altasciences’ consent and choice interface covers third-party cookies that set or read information through the Online Services.
Embedded content (for example, video players) and social media plugins may also operate on the Online Services. These features can set cookies controlled by their providers and are subject to those providers’ privacy policies and terms.
In some cases, third parties place cookies for their own purposes (for example, social networks or video platforms). When that occurs, Altasciences may not receive the data those cookies collect. These cookies are still subject to the consent and choice interface on our site, but their use by the third party is governed by that party’s own policies.
Altasciences discloses Personal Information to service providers and contractors for business purposes under written terms and does not permit them to use Personal Information for their own purposes. The California Privacy Notice lists categories of third-party recipients, and the Online Privacy Notice describes vendors that support analytics, consent, marketing automation, and related functions.
Retention and Cookie Lifespans
Altasciences sets cookie lifespans that are proportionate to the stated purpose and no longer than necessary. Altasciences does not set default maximum durations solely because they are technically possible. The cookie register identifies whether each cookie is session or persistent and discloses its intended duration.
Altasciences aligns cookie-derived data handling with the retention standards in the Online Privacy Notice, which generally apply a three-year retention period for website and Online Services data that is not required for a current and legitimate business purpose. Backups expire on their normal rotation cycles. Altasciences does not restore backups solely to delete specific records unless the law requires it. Legal holds suspend ordinary deletion for affected records until the hold ends.
Cross-Border Processing
Altasciences may process cookie-derived information in Canada, the United States, and other jurisdictions where Altasciences or its vendors operate. When a transfer is legally restricted, Altasciences uses recognized transfer tools such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses and the UK IDTA or Addendum, relies on adequacy decisions where available, and implements supplementary safeguards when needed to ensure an essentially equivalent level of protection.
Children
Altasciences Online Services are not directed to children. Altasciences does not knowingly collect Personal Information online from children, does not sell Personal Information, and does not share Personal Information for cross-context behavioral advertising. For Québec, Altasciences supports the parental authorization requirements of Law 25 with respect to minors.
Changes to This Cookie Policy
Altasciences may update this Cookie Policy to reflect changes in cookie practices, applicable law, or the Online Services. When updated, Altasciences will post the revised version with a new effective date. Where the law requires additional notice or consent in connection with a material change, Altasciences will provide it.
